Three charged after man allegedly dragged by vehicle in Orillia

A Ramara Township resident is among three charged with assault after a man was allegedly dragged by a vehicle in Orillia.

According to the OPP, officers were called to the Orillia waterfront around 10:30 p.m. Friday (Aug. 28)

“An investigation into the incident revealed (that) two males were walking along Esplanade St. when a vehicle approached them. While the vehicle passed by, the driver and two passengers started yelling profanities at the two males walking,” reads a media release.

“A short time later the same vehicle returned. At this point the occupants of the vehicle sprayed one of the males with beer and threw a beer can at him. The vehicle left the scene again.”

Police say the vehicle then returned a third time and stopped near the two men walking.

“The victim approached the vehicle and engaged in conversation with the driver of the car. The driver then began to drive away in an aggressive manner dragging the male over 25 meters,” the media release reads.

“During all the encounters the occupants of the car were yelling profanities to the two males on foot.”

Officers reportedly located the vehicle a short time later and all occupants were arrested.

James Key, 23, of Barrie, has been charged with assault and dangerous operation.

Eric Artindale, 21, of Ramara Township and Roarke McCooeye, 21, of Bracebridge have each been charged with assault.

All three are scheduled to appear in Orillia court on Nov. 17.
