A Kawartha Lakes man has been charged after allegedly fleeing from a RIDE check.
According to the OPP, officers were conducting roadside screenings on Friday (Aug. 21) on Golf Course Road.
“An officer approached a vehicle as it entered the RIDE check area and spoke to the driver. The officer believed that the driver had been consuming alcohol and subsequently directed the driver to pull to the shoulder of the road,” reads a media release.
“The driver initially complied but then departed the scene.”
Police say the officer followed the vehicle to a nearby residence and an ensuing investigation led to the arrest of the driver.
Roger Schoonbroodt, 58, has been charged with operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus) and possession of a Schedule I substance – cocaine.
He is scheduled to appear in Lindsay court on Nov. 19.
