Kawartha Lakes man scammed out of $20,000 after online sale

A Kawartha Lakes man was scammed out of $20,000 after selling a personal watercraft through an online marketplace.

According to the Kawartha Lakes Police Service, the suspect paid the victim with a bank draft and took the machine.

“When the victim deposited the bank draft, he learned that it was a fraudulent bank draft,” reads a media release.

“Kawartha Lakes Police Service would like to remind the public to ensure any transactions with people they don’t know personally, they should be very vigilant in ensuring the authenticity of any forms of payment and also confirm the identification of the buyer in case there is an issue with payment.”
