Beaverton beach among five posted by the health department

Heading into the long weekend, five public beaches – including the south beach in Beaverton – have been posted as unsafe for swimming by the Durham Region Health Department.

Beaches are posted as unsafe for swimming when elevated levels of E. coli exceed the provincial standard of 200 E. coli per 100 ml of water.

In addition to Beaverton south beach, Kinsman Beach (Scugog), both Lakeview beaches (Oshawa) and Paradise Beach (Ajax) have been posted.

Elgin Pond in Uxbridge was not tested this week due to blue green algae, a media release notes.
