An Oshawa man has been charged after allegedly failing to stop for police.
According to the OPP, an officer was conducting a radar patrol on Glenarm Road around 9 p.m. Sunday (July 26).
“The officer attempted to stop a vehicle for speeding but lost sight of the vehicle as it accelerated away from the cruiser,” reads a media release.
“A short time later, the officer was flagged down by a civilian indicating that there had been a single vehicle collision on Branch Street. On arrival at this location, the officer observed the vehicle in the ditch but the occupants had fled the scene.”
Police say that witness information assisted officers in locating the passenger in the vicinity, while members of the Canine Unit and Emergency Response Team members attended the area to assist in the search for the driver.
The driver – 20-year-old Elijah Smith – reportedly turned himself in to officers on scene. He has been charged with dangerous operation, speeding and fail to stop for police.
He is scheduled to appear in Lindsay court on Sept. 24.
