Brock Township Mayor Debbie Bath-Hadden said she’s “embarrassed” by vulgar vandalism at the skatepark in Cannington.
While graffiti is somewhat tolerated at the site, photos shared on social media Tuesday (July 22) highlighted a string of offensive language, including profanity and racial slurs, that has recently been spraypainted.
In an interview, Mayor Bath-Hadden said that Township staff will be working to remove the vandalism as soon as possible.
“It’s absolutely disgusting. I am so embarrassed that this has happened in our community,” she said.
“If it continues, we will have to evaluate how and when the park will remain open.”
Township Work Director Paul Legrandeur echoed those sentiments, saying that municipal staff will mull over some potential solutions in the coming days.
“Well, this isn’t the first time we’ve had to deal with this. Unfortunately, it probably won’t be the last,” he said.
“As we’ve done in the past, we will address this with our operating maintenance in parks by painting over the areas of concern. We are discussing ideas ranging from more police presence, if possible, to adding security cameras.”
