Weight restrictions are now in place for the Beaver River Bridge on Simcoe Street (Regional Road 15) in Beaverton.
The restrictions limit the total weight of vehicles on the bridge, which does not have adequate capacity to carry certain vehicle loads according to a notice from the Region.
Weight limits have been established for single axle (nine tonnes), tandem axle (10 tonnes) and tridem axle (13 tonnes) vehicles.
The measures comes following a detailed bridge inspection and evaluation and will remain in place until a longer-term solution is identified.
“These weight restrictions are necessary to ensure safety of bridge users,” it reads.
“Durham Regional Police Service and the Ministry of Transportation Ontario monitor vehicles to enforce weight restrictions. As this concerns public safety, there will be no exemptions to this weight restriction.”
