A retiree from Uxbridge recently hit the jackpot.
Debra Coppins, 65, won more than $1 million in the April 7 LOTTO MAX draw, winning the MAXMILLIONS prize and a $2 prize from ENCORE.
“I never thought this would happen to me. I don’t think reality will set in until I sit down with my bank advisor,” Coppins said while at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto to pick up her cheque.
The retired mother of two and grandmother of five plays the lottery occasionally.
“When I checked my ticket on the OLG Lottery App and saw ‘$1 million’ I checked it again, and then again,” she said.
“I texted my kids and best friend and they didn’t believe me!”
Knowing that it would take some time to claim her prize due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Coppins said she “put her ticket in a safety deposit box for safe-keeping.”
She plans to share her windfall with her children and grandchildren.
“I will also make some investments and have already purchased a brand-new Toyota Corolla,” she said.
