Public beaches in Brock Township – which remain closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic – were not tested this week as part of the Durham Region Health Department’s monitoring program.
Public beaches are open in every other municipality in Durham, with the exception of Oshawa.
“The health department has been advised by the Township of Brock and the City of Oshawa that the beaches in these municipalities are currently closed,” reads a media release.
“Therefore, the start of the beach monitoring program has been delayed in these municipalities until the beaches reopen. While the sampling of the water at public beaches within Durham Region is the responsibility of the health department, processes and restrictions related to COVID-19 at area beaches are the responsibility of the local area municipalities.”
Elgin Pond in Uxbridge was not tested this week due to blue green algae, the release also notes.
