A motorist from Cumberland Beach was charged with impaired driving following a traffic stop.
According to the OPP, an officer was conducting patrols on Kirkfield Road, near Portage Road, on Tuesday (June 16) when a passenger in a vehicle was spotted without wearing a seatbelt.
“As a result of this observation, the officer stopped the vehicle and the 22 year old passenger was charged with the Highway Traffic Act offence of failing to wear a seatbelt,” reads a media release.
“During the vehicle stop, the officer determined that the driver had been consuming alcohol.”
Heinz Engels, 19, has been charged with pperation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus), driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor and novice driver – B.A.C. above zero.
He is scheduled to appear in Orillia court on Sept. 10.
