A stolen police vehicle – which contained a police-issued rifle, handgun, ammunition and two conductive energy weapons inside of a locked compartment – has been recovered in Markham.
While few details have been released, the York Regional Police noted in a social media post that the weapons and other police-issued equipment were also recovered in addition to the vehicle, a 2016 Toyota Highlander.
“It was reported by a police officer with the Durham Regional Police Service who advised that the unmarked vehicle issued to him by the Ontario Provincial Police had been stolen from his driveway sometime overnight,” reads a media release.
“The investigation has revealed that the vehicle was stolen from the driveway of a residence in the area of Main Street Markham and Parkway Avenue on Thursday, June 11, 2020, shortly after 3 a.m.”
The investigation is ongoing.
