Brock Libraries has re-opened with a new contactless pickup service in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The service got underway Tuesday (June 9) and allows patrons to request library materials and then pick up those materials from their local branch while maintaining physical distancing.
Patrons are asked to submit a request online or by phone before planning a visit.
“We will contact you when your items are ready for pickup and will arrange a date and time for your visit. Please plan to maintain physical distancing (a minimum of two metres/six feet) for the duration of your visit,” reads a media release.
Patrons are asked to have their library cards ready when they head to the designated branch to pick up the materials.
“Our staff will ask you to identify yourself when you arrive and will then retrieve your order. Your items will be placed on a table at the entrance where you can pick them up,” the media release reads.
Items can be returned to the exterior drop boxes.
“Our contactless pickup process has been designed to protect our patrons and staff from the spread of COVID-19. Strict physical distancing is being enforced throughout the contactless pickup process and at all times for library staff in order to minimize the risk of transmission,” the media release reads.
“Library staff will be wearing personal protective equipment including gloves and masks and will be following strict hygiene practices, all to further minimize the risk of transmission.”
Staff have also implemented a strict quarantine period for returned materials.
“All returned materials are being isolated for a minimum of 72 hours. This follows best practices established by the Southern Ontario Library Service and various health authorities based on research indicating that COVID-19 can persist on surfaces for a period ranging from several hours to several days depending on the type of surface,” the release reads.
“Current best practices advise to quarantine all materials for 72 hours in order to allow all traces of the virus to naturally die off, allowing them to be safely recirculated following the quarantine period.”
Late fees on all materials have been waived for the duration of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“ We recognize that the current situation is challenging for everyone, we hope that eliminating overdue fees will remove potential barriers to library use for our patrons during this difficult time,” the release reads.
“Please note however that replacement costs for damaged, lost, or otherwise unreturned items will still be charged.”
