Newest confirmed case of COVID-19 in Brock linked to community transmission

There are now eight confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Brock Township.

The update Wednesday (June 3) from the Durham Region Health Department notes that the residents involved in three cases are in home isolation, while five cases have been resolved.

The newest case is the first to involve community transmission. Of the others, four are related to facility outbreaks with three attributed to contact with a confirmed case.

Overall, there have been 1,500 confirmed cases in Durham – 513 in Pickering, 388 in Ajax, 246 in Oshawa, 152 in Whitby, 88 in Clarington, 87 in Uxbridge, 18 in Scugog and the eight in Brock Township.

A total of 128 residents are in home isolation, with 22 currently hospitalized.

A total of 175 deaths – including 149 at long-term care and retirement homes – have been attributed to COVID-19.

A total of 1,175 cases have been resolved, which represents 78 per cent of the total.
