The 2020 edition of the Sunderland Fall Fair has been cancelled due to ongoing concerns about the COVID-19 pandemic.
The event was slated to run on Sept. 15 and 16 this year.
“This decision was not taken lightly but was made by unanimous vote of the Board of Directors after taking into consideration all the implications of holding a fair in the midst of the Covid-19 outbreak,” reads a statement from executive members of the Sunderland Agricultural Society.
“The health and safety of fair patrons, suppliers, vendors, volunteers and members is our primary concerns.”
The statement does note that organizers expect the event to return in 2021.
“The Sunderland Fall Fair has been a staple event in our community for 168 years. Organizers and fairgoers alike look forward to this event each year and we will all be disappointed by its absence in 2020. We look forward, however, to 2021 when we hope to see you all again. In the meantime, we will be looking for other ways to keep our fair alive and to make the 169th fair better than ever,” it reads.
“For now we encourage everyone to follow government guidelines and practice the protocols needed to stay safe and well during this time.”
