Brock High, school board celebrating student’s scholarship win

tyler westThe Durham District School Board is celebrating a Brock High School student’s scholarship win.
Tyler West of Sunderland is one of this year’s recipients of the Schulich Leadership Scholarship, which is awarded to Canada’s “best and brightest students.”
Scholarships are offered to entrepreneurial-minded high school graduates enrolling in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) program at 20 partner universities across Canada.
Every high school in Canada can nominate one graduating student each year to apply.
West is the first Brock High School student to claim the prize.
A media release from the DDSB Monday (May 25) notes that West has excelled academically and he has been a leader within school communities, having served as the student trustee for Brock, Scugog and Uxbridge.
“We are so very proud of Tyler’s accomplishments, as a student trustee for the north,” says James Klodnicki, principal at Brock High School.
“We are thrilled that he has been recognized by Schulich for his STEM ability and potential, and anticipate witnessing a very bright future for this talented young man.”
“On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I’d like to congratulate Tyler on receiving the Schulich Leader Scholarship. It has been a pleasure to have Tyler on the Board and to work alongside him on important initiatives for DDSB students. I wish him much success at the University of Waterloo next year and beyond,” added Chris Braney, chair of the DDSB.
After graduating from Brock High next month, West plans on attending the University of Waterloo to study Honours Mechatronic Engineering.
