
A Severn Township man is facing charges after allegedly fleeing from police while impaired.
According to the OPP, officers received a call with concerns for the well-being of a male who was believed to be in the Orillia area around 3 a.m. on Saturday (May 23).
“Police located the male in his vehicle and when approached by police he fled. Officers did not pursue the vehicle; however, the OPP Aviation Unit Helicopter was dispatched to assist locating the vehicle,” reads a media release.
The vehicle was located and stopped on Highway 400 by utilizing a spike belt and a rolling block to terminate the incident in a safe manner, police noted.
“There were no reported injuries to the driver or officers,” the media release reads.
Shane Corkum, 44, has been charged with operation while impaired – alcohol, operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus), dangerous operation and flight from peace officer.
He was released on an undertaking and is set to appear in Orillia court on Aug. 4.
