Officer allegedly assaulted in Lindsay, Oshawa resident charged

A member of the Kawartha Lakes Police Service was reportedly assaulted Thursday night (May 14) in a Lindsay restaurant.

According to police, the officer was patrolling Kent Street West at approximately 10 p.m. when a member of the public notified them of a man reportedly causing a disturbance in front of a downtown restaurant.

“The officer located the man acting erratically inside the restaurant, and as the officer entered the building the man locked himself in a women’s washroom,” reads a release from police.

“After speaking briefly with the man through the locked door, the man exited the washroom and stormed at the officer.  A struggle ensued between the two, during which the man kicked the officer.”

Police say the man was arrested and found to be in possession of a small amount of heroin.

Cody Thorne, 28, of Oshawa is charged with assaulting a peace officer and possession of a controlled substance. He will appear in court in Lindsay on July 16.
