Durham Region has implemented weight restrictions on a bridge on Simcoe Street (Regional Road 15) in Beaverton.
A public notice from the Region notes that the restrictions were put in place for the Beaver River Bridge – which is located just west of Highway 12 – following a detailed inspection and is related to public safety.
“The bridge weight restriction limits the total weight of vehicles on the bridge, which does not have adequate capacity to carry certain vehicle loads,” a notice from the Region reads.
Weight limits have been put in place for single-axle (nine tonnes), tandem-axle (10 tonnes) and tridem-axle (13 tonnes) vehicles.
A formal detour route, via Highway 12 and Mara Road (Regional Rd 23), has posted.
“Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) and the Ministry of Transportation Ontario monitor vehicles to enforce weight restrictions. As this concerns public safety, there will be no exemptions to this weight restriction,” the notice reads.
