Orillia facing impaired driving charges following traffic stop

An Orillia man has been charged with impaired driving following a traffic stop in the city Thursday (May 7).

According to the OPP, an officer was on patrol on Mary Street around 1 a.m. when he observed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed.

“The officer followed the vehicle which was being driven erratically and conducted a traffic stop on Diana Drive. Upon speaking with the driver, the officer initiated an impaired driving investigation and the male was subsequently arrested,” reads a media release.

Marty O’Brien, 42, of Orillia has been charged with operation while impaired – alcohol, operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus), dangerous operation and operation while prohibited.

He is scheduled to appear in Orillia court on July 14.
