Cyclist death in Clarington marks sixth Durham roadway fatality of 2020

A 57-year-old cyclist was killed Tuesday (May 5) when he was struck by a vehicle in Clarington.

Durham Regional Police responded to reports of a collision in the area of Clarington Concession Road 6 and Solina Road shortly after 1 p.m. Tuesday.

Police say the man was crossing eastbound through the intersection when he was hit by a southbound pick-up truck. The driver of the truck stopped and remained at the scene, where the cyclist was pronounced deceased.

According to police, this is the sixth roadway fatality of 2020 investigated by DRPS.

The roadway was closed for several hours while police collected evidence and conducted their investigation. The investigation is ongoing. Any witnesses who have not already spoken to police are asked to call D/Cst. Riley at 905-579-1520 (toll free 1-888-579-1520) extension 5216.
