Robbery suspect arrested within seconds, police say

A suspect was taken into custody seconds after allegedly committing a robbery at a Lindsay business.

According to the Kawartha Lakes Police Service, a suspect entered a store on William Street North in Lindsay around 8:30 a.m. Sunday (April 19) and demanded cigarettes from the clerk.

“When the clerk instructed the suspect to leave, the suspect began damaging property inside the store. The suspect then brandished a large knife, walked behind the counter and began removing packages of cigarettes,” reads a media release.

“The suspect left the store but was arrested by officers as he walked south on William Street.”

Gregory Kemp Oake, 53, of Lindsay has been charged with mischief to property under $5,000, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, robbery and failing to comply with the conditions of his undertaking.

He was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
