
Four people – including a minor – are facing firearms offenses following a traffic stop in Orillia.
According to the OPP, officers conducted a traffic stop on Barrie Road shortly after 11:30 p.m. on Saturday (April 4) night.
“The driver was suspended. While police were investigating this incident a passenger was arrested for obstructing police and that is when investigators discovered a handgun,” reads a media release.
“All of the occupants of the vehicle were arrested. During the search of the vehicle police also discovered a quantity of suspected cocaine.”
Three adults – 31-year-old Samantha Mayes of Orillia, 37-year-old Robert Barbowski of Orillia and 18-year-old Jason Urbina of Markham – have been charged with unauthorized possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, knowledge of unauthorized possession of a weapon, possession of a prohibited firearm, careless storage of a firearm and occupant of a motor vehicle knowing there was a firearm.
All three were released on an undertaking and are set to appear in Orillia court on June 9.
A 17-year-old from Markham has been charged with unauthorized possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, knowledge of unauthorized possession of a weapon, possession of a prohibited firearm, careless storage of a firearm, occupant of a motor vehicle knowing there was a firearm, possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking and possession of a Schedule I substance.
The youth was released on an undertaking an is scheduled in Orillia court on June 10.
