Three residents of Lakeview Manor that were isolated after showing symptoms of a respiratory illness have tested negative for COVID-19.

According to the Durham Region Health Department, the symptoms were caused by human metapneumovirus – a common, seasonal virus that can cause upper respiratory infections.

The test results were received Wednesday (April 1) with calls going out to the family members off residents through the evening and into the following day.

All long-term care homes run by the Region were closed to non-essential visitors on March 14.
