Township announces financial relief for taxpayers

In follow up to the Special Council Meeting held today, March 30, Mayor Debbie Bath-Hadden shared the following:

“In light of COVID-19, this afternoon Council approved a number of measures to provide tax relief to residents and local businesses.

These measures include:

— A two-month grace period on the April tax installment with no penalty or interest charged for May or June;

—  Staff have been authorized to waive the collection of fees outlined in the 2020 Fees By-law for the Finance Department for the duration of the emergency when the fee would further penalize the rate payer; and

Council has requested the Regional Municipality of Durham allow for additional time to pay the April installment to ensure the Township has time to collect the funds once the state of emergency has been rescinded.

Council recognizes that this is an uncertain time for everyone and hopes that this announcement can provide some relief during these unprecedented times. The Township will continue to look for ways to support our residents and local businesses during this difficult time.”

The Township of Brock would appreciate all residents and businesses who are capable of making their payments as normal, to please continue to do so. This program is designed to help those most impacted during this pandemic crisis.
