Police are investigating after an ice hut was set ablaze on Lake Simcoe.
While few details have been released, York Regional Police shared a photo of the wreckage on social media Friday (March 27) and noted that investigators do not believe the fire was accidental.
“Choosing to burn your ice hut, instead of removing it from the ice is irresponsible and illegal. We have removed the remains of this hut from Lake Simcoe so it won’t cause a hazard for boaters once the ice melts,” the post reads.
“Abandoning your ice hut is illegal. So is intentionally setting fire to it,” added Assistant Deputy Fire Marshal Steven Marshall in a social media post.
