Brock Township issues COVID-19 update (March 17)

Public health and safety is the Township of Brock’s top priority as the COVID-19 situation continues to evolve.

As a reminder, all Township facilities are closed to the public and a full outdoor burn ban is in effect until further notice. Staff are available to assist you via email or phone during our regular office hours, Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The Township of Brock continues to actively monitor the situation and offers the following updates to residents regarding the current status of its programs and services. Please note that these are services we are currently offering, however, as the situation evolves, services may be additionally affected. We will do our best to keep the public apprised in a timely manner.

Animal Services
The Township of Brock Animal Shelter will be closed to the public and animal adoptions suspended.
Staff will continue to look after the animals in their care. Staff will be responding only to emergencies related to sick, injured or stray animals.
If the public need to come to pick up impounded animals, an appointment will be required in which proper safety protocols will be strictly enforced. Please contact 705-432-2884 or 705-432-2355.

Building Department
The Township of Brock Building Department will continue to accept permit applications via regular mail, e-mail and through the Municipal Administration drop box. We would request that you contact the Township by e-mail or telephone to discuss specific requirements for permit applications and fee payment options.
The Building Department will also be conducting building inspections for all non-occupied buildings. We would request that anyone requiring an inspection call the Building Department at 705-432-2355 ext. 230 to set up inspections and/or discuss options.

By-law Services
Staff will only be responding to by-law complaints where it is deemed to be an immediate public health or safety concern. Residents are encouraged to still submit complaints via our online submission form or by email. All complaints will be addressed as soon as it is safe and feasible to do so.

Parking ticket payments:
Individuals can drop off their payment to the Municipal Administration drop box located; or
Individuals can email us to request an extension on their payment due date without penalty.

Fire Services
The Fire Department will continue to respond to all emergency situations. All non-essential inspections, public education events, and station visits have been cancelled until further notice.

As of March 15, 2020 at 2:00 p.m., an outdoor burn ban was implemented until further notice. Please note the reason for the burn ban is to eliminate the congregating of personnel and public if the need arises to respond to a burning complaint.

Legislative Services
All Clerk’s Department related licences, permits, freedom of information requests, complaints, etc. will be addressed on a case-by-case basis. Please contact us by phone or email to discuss further.
All Council appointed boards and advisory committees have been cancelled until further notice. A decision on the regularly scheduled Council and Committee of the Whole meetings has not yet been made.
The public is asked to email any correspondence to be placed on an upcoming Council or Committee agenda.

Planning Services
All Statutory Public Meetings have been cancelled. The April 6th cancellation impacts the two following planning files:
– Cannabis Production and Processing in the Township of Brock (Project No: 01-2020-PL)
– Darmar Farms, Severance of a Surplus Farm Dwelling (Project No: 2-2020-PL, File No: 2-2020-RA)
All in-person pre-consultation meetings will be rescheduled to either a later date or conducted in a different format than in-person. For any questions regarding planning processes, or to make arrangements to submit an application, please contact us by phone 705-432-2355- ext. 235 or by email.

Public Works Department
Roads
Staff will continue to manage road conditions as in grading, potholes, and drainage concerns. Residents are asked to continue to report any problems online or by email or phone. Staff will review all issues reported and address where appropriate.

Facilities
The Township of Brock will not be taking any bookings for our facilities until further notice. We will re-evaluate this on April 6, 2020. We appreciate your patience and understanding. Refunds are currently being processed for all rentals that were booked during this three week period.

Recreational Services
All recreational programs, including fitness classes and programs, are cancelled until further notice.
Release of our Spring Fitness Class Schedule and Summer Day Program & registration may be delayed.
The Brock Sports Hall of Fame indication ceremony scheduled for April 18, 2020 has been cancelled.

Treasury Department
Any payments for Property Taxes or Township related services can be made by mail or by using our Municipal Administration drop box (no cash please). At this time, we will not be accepting water samples or water payments, nor will we be selling garbage tags or Durham Region Transit tickets. Should you require those please contact the Region of Durham.

We recognize the impact that these changes will likely have on families and our facility users, but this precaution is necessary to help keep people safe. The situation with COVID-19 is rapidly changing, and we will continue to adjust our operations according to the recommendations of health authorities. We appreciate the public’s patience and understanding as we continue to deal with this evolving situation.
