Teenaged driver allegedly clocked driving at twice the speed limit

A 16-year-old driver was allegedly clocked driving at twice the speed limit in Kawartha Lakes.

According to the OPP, officers were conducting traffic enforcement on Highway 35 near Mount Horeb Road Sunday (March 9) when a vehicle was observed travelling at an excessive rate of speed.

“The officer stopped the vehicle, which reached a speed of 160 km/h in an 80-km/h zone,” a media release reads.

The driver, a 16-year-old Lindsay resident, was subsequently charged with race a motor vehicle – excessive speed, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.

“The accused’s driver’s licence was automatically suspended for seven days and the vehicle was towed from the scene to be impounded for seven days,” the media release reads.

He is scheduled to appear in Lindsay court on May 5.
