Elementary and high schools across the province will be closed Friday (Feb. 21) for a one-day strike by teachers.
Members of Ontario’s four largest teacher unions will participate in the strike unless an agreement is reached with provincial government.
“Unless notified otherwise, all DDSB elementary schools, secondary schools and programs that will close on this day will re-open for regularly scheduled classes on Monday, February 24, 2020 and will continue with scheduled classes thereafter, pending further notice. DDSB’s Job Action Committee will continue to provide updated communication to families related to this escalation in job action,” reads a post on the board’s website.
“We value our staff and their work with students. We also recognize their right to the collective bargaining process, which includes the option of full withdrawal of services and of volunteer activities. We recognize the concerns of some parents/guardians, students and staff in relation to provincial negotiations and their impact on us locally.”
