Oshawa man pronounced dead following head-on crash with bus in Whitby

A 28-year-old man from Oshawa is dead following a head-on collision with a bus in Whitby Friday (Feb. 14) night.

According to the DRPS, officers were called to a serious two-vehicle collision on Victoria Street East, east of South Blair Street, shortly before 7 p.m.

“A black Honda Civic travelling westbound on Victoria Street collided with a Durham Region Transit bus that was travelling eastbound on Victoria Street,” reads a media release.

“First responders attended the scene within minutes and provided medical assistance to the driver of the Honda Civic, however the male was pronounced deceased at the scene.”

The bus driver received minor injuries and was treated and released at a local hospital, police say.

There were no passengers on the bus at the time of the collision.

“In the minutes prior to the head-on collision, the Ontario Provincial Police received and were responding to multiple fail-to-remain collisions in the westbound lanes of the 401 between Simcoe Street and Thickson Road involving the same black Honda Civic,” the media release reads.

The road was closed for several hours for a police investigation.
