Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for parts of Durham and York regions.
Snow is expected Wednesday (Feb. 5) night into Thursday, with total snowfall accumulations in the 5 to 10 cm range expected for most areas.
“Snow associated with a low pressure system from Texas is forecast to arrive tonight. The snow is forecast to become heavy late tonight or early Thursday morning, before easing in intensity Thursday morning. The snow will continue through the day Thursday, possibly mixed with freezing drizzle. Additional light snow will be possible Thursday night into Friday morning,” it reads.
Motorists are encouraged to exercise caution.
“Given the timing of the snow, the Thursday morning commute as well as the Thursday afternoon commute are likely to be impacted,” the statement reads.
“Environment Canada will continue to monitor the situation closely. However, snowfall warnings are not anticipated at this time.”
