Public elementary schools in Durham will likely be closed two days this week due to rotating strikes by members of the Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario.
The Durham District School Board has announced that schools will be closed on Tuesday (Feb. 4) and Thursday (Feb. 6).
“We recognize the complexity for families during these days but for the reasons already articulated, we are not able to safely supervise students without our staff,” reads a notice from Norah Marsh, acting director of education, posted to the board’s website.
In addition, effective Monday (Feb. 3), the ETFO has announced that all extra-curricular activities will cease.
“We appreciate your understanding as we all work together throughout this ongoing and evolving process. We remain hopeful that a provincial agreement can be reached soon,” the notice reads.
