Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning for much of southern Ontario heading into the weekend.
Between 15 to 20 centimetres is expected in the northern parts of Durham and York regions on Saturday (Jan. 18).
“Snow is expected to move into the area on Saturday morning as a low pressure system approaches. Snow will be heavy at times Saturday afternoon. The snow associated with this low pressure system will move out overnight Saturday night and give way to lake effect flurries close to Lake Huron and Georgian Bay. Total snowfall amounts of 15 to 20 cm are likely associated with this low pressure system,” the warning reads.
“Winds gusting up to 50 km/h will create areas of blowing snow giving reduced visibilities, particularly Saturday afternoon and Saturday evening.”
Motorists are urged to exercise caution.
“Prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions. Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow,” it reads.
