Nineteen-year-old driver clocked doing 53 km/h over the speed limit

A 19-year-old driver has been charged after allegedly travelling more than 50 km/h over the speed limit on Highway 35 in Kawartha Lakes.

According to the OPP, an officer was patrolling the highway near Bethany Hills Road when a vehicle was observed travelling at 133 km/h in the 80-km/h zone.

“The officer stopped the vehicle and the 19 year old driver was charged with the speeding offence, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act,” reads a media release.

“The driver’s G2 licence was seized and the vehicle was towed from the scene, to be impounded for seven days.”
