Brock Township resident charged after hydro poles hit in Uxbridge

A Brock Township man is charged after a vehicle reportedly collided with and severed hydro poles in Uxbridge.

According to Durham Regional Police, a 26-year-old from Brock Township was driving on Regional Road 1 near Bagshaw Crescent in Uxbridge at approximately 9:25 p.m. Friday (Jan. 3) when the collision occured.

Police say the Hyundai SUV being operated by the accused left the road and hit two hydro poles. The poles were reportedly severed and one fell across the roadway, bringing with it live wires, according to DRPS.

Someone living nearby came down to offer assistance and the driver left the area, police say.

At approximately 9:50 p.m., DRPS helicopter Air1 located the male using thermal imaging. Police say the suspect was walking northbound on Victoria Road (Regional Road 1) near Old Shiloh Road. Ground units attended and arrested the man without incident.

Salvatore Laffan, 26, of Brock Township is charged with impaired operation – alcohol, impaired operation – blood alcohol concentration, fail to remain and drive motor vehicle under suspension. He was later released on an undertaking.
