An Uxbridge resident allegedly driving the wrong way on a one-way street in Oshawa, leading to a multi-vehicle collision, has been charged.
According to Durham Regional Police, at approximately 5:35 p.m. Thursday (Jan. 2), an 18-year-old was driving northbound on Park Road in Oshawa. Police say the man claims his GPS then advised him to turn left onto King Street West, a one-way, multi-lane roadway for eastbound traffic only.
Vehicles driving eastbound on King Street saw the vehicle approaching them in the northernmost lane. An eastbound Ford pickup in the northernmost lane reportedly honked his horn and flashed his lights, to no avail.
Police say the 38-year-old driver of the pickup then veered quickly to the right to avoid a head on collision, striking an eastbound white GMC Terrain SUV travelling beside him. The Terrain then lost control and flipped onto its side, trapping its 83-year-old female driver.
Emergency services arrived and were able to get the woman out of the Terrain. She was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries. Everyone involved in the incident remained at the scene and cooperated with police.
Dylan Murphy, 18, of Uxbridge is charged with careless driving.
