Fire that destroyed two businesses and two apartments in Lindsay under investigation

Officials continue to investigate a fire that broke out in Lindsay Saturday (Dec. 28) afternoon.

According to Kawartha Lakes Fire Chief Mark Pankhurst, the fire at Derry’s Restaurant on County Road 36 broke out around 1 p.m. and also engulfed another small business and two apartments.

Mere hours later, the building was little more than a shell.

“It’s basically been destroyed,” Chief Pankhurst said in an interview around 4 p.m.

While the fire had essentially been extinguished at that time, crews remained at the scene as smoke continued to waft from the rubble.

No injuries were reported.

“The owner was taken to hospital as a precaution,” Chief Pankhurst said.

Steven Wilson, a deputy fire marshal, shared a photo of the damage on social media Sunday and noted that the investigation continues.
