Lindsay businesses gutted by fire

A fire gutted a Lindsay restaurant, another business and two apartments Saturday (Dec. 28) afternoon.

According to Kawartha Lakes Fire Chief Mark Pankhurst, the fire at Derry’s Restaurant on County Road 36 broke out around 1 p.m. and also engulfed another small business and two apartments.

Mere hours later, the building was little more than a shell.

“It’s basically been destroyed,” Chief Pankhurst said in an interview around 4 p.m.

While the fire had essentially been extinguished at that time, crews remained at the scene as smoke continued to waft from the rubble.

No injuries were reported.

“The owner was taken to hospital as a precaution,” Chief Pankhurst said.

County Road 36 remains closed between Queen Street (Pigeon Lake Road) and Colborne Street East.
