DRPS investigation leads to seizure of $1.5 million worth of drugs

A drug trafficking investigation has resulted in one arrest and the second largest seizure of fentanyl in DRPS history.

According to police, the drug trafficking investigation – dubbed Project Burza – resulted in the seizure of approximately 14.5 kilograms of fentanyl, 2.5 kilograms of crystal meth, 2.8 kilograms of cocaine and one kilogram of MDMA.

The drugs reportedly have a street value of $1.5 million.

Five search warrants were executed at different locations in Toronto, York and Durham. Investigators also recovered a loaded firearm, ammunition and $70,000 in Canadian currency.

The Dung Nguyen, 41, of Kingshill Road in Richmond Hill is charged with four counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking, as well as careless storage of a firearm, store firearm contrary to regulations, unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of firearm knowing possession unauthorized and possession of a prohibited firearm with ammunition readily available.

He was held for a bail hearing.
