A dancer from Beaverton has made her performance debut with the National Ballet of Canada.
Katryna Rouchotas, who is attending Grade 7 at Canada’s National Ballet School, was one of the students selected to take part in the group’s annual holiday performance of The Nutcracker.
The youngster was accepted at Canada’s National Ballet School earlier this year after completing an exhaustive audition process.
“It’s been one of her dreams to go there,” said her mom, Erin, at the time.
“She’s worked so hard for this.”
A typical day at the school includes roughly five hours of educational classes and another five of dance instruction, physical training and practice.
“It’s pretty exciting,” Katryna said.
She started dancing ballet, jazz and acro at the age of five.
“As soon as I tried it, I loved it,” she said.
“I wanted to keep going.”
After unsuccessfully auditioning in 2018, Katryna started practicing four times a week out of the Lindsay Dance Studio.
That perseverance certainly paid off.
“Her love of dance, determination and resiliency are simply amazing. We’re all very proud and excited for her,” Erin said.
