A 33-year-old Whitby man has been charged following a six-month human trafficking investigation involving a 16-year-old victim.

According to police, a 16-year-old girl reported to police that she was recruited and forced to work in the sex trade in the GTA.

“An investigation began and the accused was arrested yesterday during a traffic stop in Whitby,” reads a media release from police.

Kimel Beckford of Northview Drive has been charged with: procuring person under 18 years, trafficking in person under 18 years, material benefit from sexual services under 18 years and material benefit trafficking person under 18 years.

He was held for a bail hearing.

Investigators have released his photo to ensure there are no other victims.
