Scheer stepping down as leader of Conservative party

Andrew Scheer has announced that he is stepping down as Conservative leader once a replacement has been chosen.

He made the announcement Thursday (Dec. 12) in the House of Commons.

Under Scheer, the Conservatives won the popular vote in October’s federal election but didn’t claim enough seats to form a new government.

We’ve reached out to area MP Jamie Schmale for comment but have yet to receive a response.
