Orillia man arrested for allegedly ramming cruiser and fleeing from police

An Orillia man has been arrested in connection with an incident that allegedly saw an occupied police cruiser rammed by a man in a stolen vehicle.

According to the York Regional Police, officers were called to a beer store in the area of Yonge Street and Mulock Drive in Newmarket on Nov. 29 for a report of a possible impaired driver getting into a vehicle in the parking lot.

“An officer arrived quickly at the scene and positioned a cruiser directly behind the suspect vehicle in attempt to block him in. The suspect reversed and rammed the police vehicle twice and then proceeded to drive up into the wall of a store before fleeing across the sidewalk,” a media release reads.

“The vehicle was later located abandoned in the area of Mulock Drive and Bayview Avenue. Officers learned that the vehicle had been stolen in Peel Region.”

Johnny Danicki, 27, was arrested by Peel Regional Police on Sunday (Dec. 8).

“He will be brought back to the Town of Newmarket to face charges at the conclusion of his matters in Peel Region,” the media release reads.
