Update: Enbridge Gas has listed the impacted streets as West Street South, Andrew Street, Mississaga Street, Colborne Street West, William Street and Market Street.
Police have closed a number of streets in Orillia due to a gas leak.
According to a social media post, the closures surround a four-block radius and includes portions of Mississaga Street West, Colborne, Dunlop, Mary and Wyandotte streets.
The affected area is to the northeast of Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital, though that facility does not appear to be impacted at this time.
Residents are asked to avoid the area.
According to a social media post from Enbridge Gas, the leak was caused by construction on Mississaga Street West.
“Area is controlled and safety is our top priority – loss of gas service is expected in the next few hours for repairs,” the post reads.
Follow-up posts note that the gas was been turned off and a repair plan is in place.
“Affected customers will be contacted by an automated phone call. Expect a temporary loss of service overnight. Relights are expected to begin tomorrow morning,” one of them reads.
