Camp counsellor charged after 13-year-old girl reports she was inappropriately touched

A 21-year-old man has been charged after a 13-year-old girl reported that she was inappropriately touched while attending a summer camp in Ganaraska.

According to police, the incident allegedly occurred on Aug. 1 while the suspect was working as a church camp counsellor for the Calvary Church of Oshawa.

“The 13-year-old female victim was a counsellor in training when the incident occurred. The suspect inappropriately touched her during a staff party. The suspect has also worked for other bible camps and different church venues,” reads a media release from police.

“Investigators want to ensure there are no further victims.”

Josiah Johnson of Bowmanville has been charged with sexual assault and sexual interference. He was held for a bail hearing.
