Woman charged with impaired driving an hour after Festive RIDE launches in Peterborough

A 63-year-old woman was charged with impaired driving an hour after the Festive RIDE program got underway in the Peterborough area.

According to the OPP, officers from the Peterborough County detachment joined with their colleagues from the Peterborough Police Service to launch this year’s campaign as well as the Red Ribbon Campaign organized by Mothers Against Drunk Drivers (also known as MADD) on Wednesday (Nov. 20) afternoon.

“Shortly after 4 p.m., not one hour after the launch had been completed, officers from the Peterborough County OPP conducted a RIDE check on County Road 2,” reads a media release.

“A lone female driver was stopped and found to be under the influence of alcohol.”

Maureen Heaps, 63, of Otonabee-South Monaghan Township was arrested and charged with operation while impaired – alcohol and drug and operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration – 80 plus.

She’s scheduled to appear in Peterborough court on Dec. 19.
