Argument over recycling leads to assault charge for Peterborough woman

A 52-year-old woman from Peterborough has been charged after a recycling company worker was allegedly assaulted with a weapon.

According to police, the victim was confronted by an irate female customer after the victim advised her that her mixed recycling would not be taken

“It was reported that during the incident the accused struck the victim in the face with a bag of newspapers and books from her recycling bin. The incident was later reported to police,” reads a media release.

As a result of an investigation, police say officers attended a Peterborough home on Saturday (Nov. 16) and arrested a suspect.

Carmel Teresa Simmons of Summerhill Drive has been charged with assault with a weapon.

She is scheduled to appear in Peterborough court on Dec. 12.
