Durham Regional Police officer charged with assault

A Durham Regional Police officer is charged with assault after an alleged confrontation with a prisoner in July of this year.

According to police, the incident occurred on July 12, 2019 in the sally port (secure entryway) of the Central East Division in Oshawa.

A prisoner was reportedly being escorted into the cell area when the officer allegedly punched him.

Police say the prisoner was not seriously injured in the assault.

Paul McCurbin, 55, a Sergeant currently assigned to the DRPS Court Services Branch, has been charged with assault. He was released on a Promise to Appear. He has been reassigned to other duties.
