A pair of minor baseball teams have been recognized by township council after finishing the season with titles.
Members of the Squirt girls from Sunderland and the Peewee girls from Cannington were on hand last week to accept certificates from the municipality.
Both teams won the year-end tournament hosted by the Victoria-Brock Baseball Association to close out the 2019 campaign.
The Sunderland squad only last one game through the regular season before making an undefeated run in the tournament.
Team members include Addisyn Macbeth, Piper Smallwood, Violet Munro, Tehya Bowen, Nora Cohoon, Aubrey Underwood, Maddison Kay, Jayden Steiner, Reese Frosch and Leah Werry.
The coaching staff is comprised of Kim Underwood, Paul MacBeth, Bonnie Cohoon and Tammy Bowen.
The Cannington squad went on a hot streak after a hilarious mid-season addition to the team – a discarded baseball they found in the dugout and affectionately named Jeffrey.
“The girls put him out in the dugout at the beginning of each game and if you check our scorebook, we didn’t lose a game after that. Including the tournament,” said coach Kevin Fasolino.
Team members include Katelyn Fasolino, Addison Fowler, Valerie Mann, Josie Nicholson, Natasha Nicholson, Allexis Russell, Samantha Schloroff, Addison Underwood and Keira Dayment.
The coaching staff is comprised of Fasolino, Mac Nicholson and Kelly Dayment.
