Man charged after allegedly buying a truck with phony ID

A man is facing charges after he allegedly purchased a vehicle from a Port Perry dealership using fraudulent identification.

According to police, the man attended Taylor Ford and used fraudulent identification to finance a brand new 2019 Ford F-150 truck.

“Members of the Financial Crime Unit were contacted and it was determined that the transaction was fraudulent. The vehicle was located at the Port of Vancouver awaiting export. The vehicle was recovered and the suspect was arrested in Kingston,” reads a media release.

Kofi Yevakpor, 47, of no fixed address has been charged with fraud over $5,000, personation with intent, two counts of possess identity document, make false statement to procure loan, defraud creditors and two counts of possess counterfeit mark.

He was held for a bail hearing.
