The 2019 Canadian Plowing Championships are underway in Sunderland.
The competition will be held from Oct. 2 to 4 on a 100-acre parcel of land located at Highway 12 and Concession 7, just north of Sunderland.
Cheryl Timbers, a local resident and member of the organizing committee, noted that the event showcases the “art and skill” of participants, which will be comprised of provincial champions from across the country.
“The event is a plowing match but at a national level,” Timbers said, noting that winners will move on to represent Canada at the 2020 World Plowing Championship in Russia.
Organizers hosted a kickoff dance on Sept. 28, as well as a pair of practice days are slated for Sept. 30 and Oct. 1 before the event got underway Wednesday morning.
“The last three days are stiff competition,” Timbers said.
